With the Exclusive Accessory Crafting we focus on the growing wedding and evening wear market. The idea is to take something very plain and with the right touches turn it into something amazing. We will teach the students to make what they call a fascinator—small hat or hair accessory. We will also teach them how to make a crown or headpiece for a wedding dress. Further skills will be how to cover an old pair of shoes with fabric so that it can look like new or even cover the shoes to match the hand bag and event how to make their own jewelry. The other skill they will learn is how to embroider with beads on a wedding dress or an evening dress. The possibilities are endless if you know to make something from the ordinary to the extra ordinary.
What do we do?
Unique selling proposition
A skills development and job creation project using the events, tourism and hospitality industry as a basis. It is important to realize that our unique selling proposition is the fact that, at this stage, we will be the only project in South Africa using the Events Industry as a job creation tool. Our scope of programmes is based on a list of critical and scarce skills as identified by SAACI and various other role players in the industry.
Firstly, the Clover Mama Africa project in Ashbury – Montagu. Celestine was one of the first students to do our basic events course. She is doing draping now in all the areas around Montagu and caters for events of up to 400 people. https://www.facebook.com/SelestiensCateringAndDecor/
Rozetta Karelse started as one of our first students for Fabric art. That was 4 years ago…. and Rozetta has never looked back. Not only is she selling the jewelry that she makes but she is also one of our best facilitators for the Fabric Art course and the Accessory making course
Hope Langa was a student 3 years ago at the Bay Christian Family Church Skills Academy. She studied basic catering and events. She excelled in her studies… taking what we taught her and started her own hiring and events company. She bought 100 white chairs and started hiring it out. Last year they managed to buy themselves a car so that she can start doing deliveries. Hope is also known as the Samoosa Queen in Lwandle – selling her samoosas and cupcakes to clubs and bars. Hope is also one of the best catering and events facilitators that we have.
Ellen used to be one of our top sewing students. Today she is also on of our best facilitators for the sewing course.
